Introduction

My name is Lauren.

My preferred pronouns are she, her and hers.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

From the time I was five I have always been involved and interested in athletics. It has become so much of my life that I have made it a career. I am currently the Associate Director of Athletics at Hawken School. I love video games, movies, books and spending time with family, friends and my two dogs.

For me to feel comfortable in a learning environment, I think students and teachers both need to be open minded and understanding. We all have incredibly different views and come from different environments that we may not be able to understand or agree with, but to be respectful and to listen is very important in the classroom setting.

I read a lot. I am actually in a book club which can sometimes push me out of my romantic comedy or drama genre. Some of my favorite authors are Heather Gudenkauf, Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picults.

What matters to me most in education is that all students have equal opportunities to have the most well-rounded academic and extra-curricular experience so they can be productive members of society.

This is an essay that I enjoy that talks about the fact that athletics participation is actually helpful to a student’s academic career.
